Soople.com
_ “Finally, for those who want to do all of the neat things they've been told Google can do, but who don't want to take the time to figure them out, there’s Soople.” – Floris, designer of Soople.
Soople was designed for those who are not familiar or comfortable with using Google and all the possibilities it possesses. Within Google.com one can search for a movie and the search engine will display thousands if not millions of results for the entered text. With Soople.com you can go to the movies search bar and type in the movie that you are searching for and it will quickly link you to information on that movie and where you can see it locally. This saves the time of having to click within the search engine on the website and link you want. It takes all the fuss out of searching the internet for information.
Soople is an easy expert search engine. You are still able to search Google.com from here, but you are also provided with separate search areas clearly listed for music, movies, full text of books, videos and images, etc. It truly takes away the hassle of having to sort through all the unwanted sites that Google.com provides for you with each and every search.
As with Google.com and being able to use other countries Google search engines, Soople.com allows you to choose your country. The quick fields to fill in your searches also include searching in a specific language or country.
Soople.com provides quick fields to search for definitions, numbers and the phonebook. As with most search engines the possibilities for finding information becomes endless when the trouble of sorting through unwanted finds becomes possible. Soople.com is a search engine that takes the fuss out of searching the internet.
“Up until 30 years ago Encyclopedia Britannica was widely used as a research resource and was considered an example of a trusted, reliable, valid and scholarly source of information” (Carroll, 2011). Today you can hear most people saying to “Google-it” or search for the information. Soople.com takes it one step further and lets you choose what you are searching for.
Many educators and students can easily use Soople.com to search quickly for results on what they are looking for without stumbling upon unwanted sites and Wikipedia in their top search results. Even families can use this at home to search quickly for movies and any other information that they want without being side-tracked by information that is unnecessary.
As an educator, I would use Soople.com for students to quickly look up a keyword or location of a project we were working on. I would also encourage students to use this website to narrow down their search results once they picked a solid topic or item. I believe this could be useful in the classroom, but I also believe that it is just one of many search engines that could be useful.
